Dubai Ports World; referred to as “DP World” henceforth in this case study report, operates over 60 terminals across six continents, with container handling generating around 80% of its revenue. In addition, the company currently has 11 new developments and major expansions underway in 9 countries.
In 2011, DP World handled nearly 55 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent container units) across its portfolio from the Americas to Asia. The company constantly invests in terminal infrastructure, facilities and people, working closely with customers and business partners to provide quality services today and tomorrow, when and where customers need them.
In 2006, DP World UAE Region decided to set up its own IT Department to be responsible for all IT functions, so as to be independent of ITC, which is the IT Shared Services of Dubai World. In 2012 the need tostandardize and systematically guide the Department’s growth and expansion into more intensive usage of IT in the future was identified.
Orbus Software’s iServer Enterprise Architect with TOGAF 9 ‘out-of-the-box’ accelerator and Application Portfolio Management (APM) extension was chosen as the ‘fit for purpose’ solution to be used by DP World.
